The PLENTI Project operates in a town about thirty-five miles from, and about three thousand feet lower than, Ootacamund, the famous hill station commonly known as Ooty which was the summer home to the Madras Presidency, the government of South India during British colonial times. It stands at 3,500 feet above sea level and has a very comfortable warm climate particularly from November to April, the most popular time of year to visit. It is set in striking countryside, with rolling tea plantations and beautiful trees with particularly good bird life, looking over to the higher hills in the distance, and adjacent to the Mudumalai Wildlife Sanctuary – which is also a tiger reserve.

Within a three hour drive are some wonderful places to visit including heritage sites, forests, mountains, seaside and cities. Mysore, with its fine palace, is the closest major city (two and a half hours drive away) and within easy reach of the city are the stunning Hoysala dynasty temples and Srirangapatna, Tipu Sultan’s capital in the eighteenth century. Ooty, Coonor and Kotagiri (1½ - 2 hours away) are full of British era history and enjoy spectacular mountain views.
